Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-05-01
By creating an account or using repeat.cards, you agree to these terms. They cover what we provide, what we expect of you, and what happens if either of us decides to walk away. We've kept the language plain — if anything is unclear, write to [email protected].
1. The service
repeat.cards is a web application for studying foreign-language vocabulary with flashcards and spaced repetition.
We do our best to keep the service available and the data correct, but we don't promise zero downtime or zero bugs. The service is provided “as is” — see the disclaimer below.
2. Your account
You need an account to use most features. When you register, you agree that:
- The information you provide is accurate (especially your email — we send important things to it).
- You are at least 16 years old, or you have permission from a parent or guardian.
- You will not share your account credentials with anyone else.
- You are responsible for activity on your account.
If you suspect someone else has access to your account, change your password and tell us at [email protected].
3. What you can do
Use the service to study any language you want. Create as many decks as you want. Add as many cards as you want. Import your own data. Use AI features with your own API key. Have fun.
4. What you can't do
You agree not to:
- Use the service to store or distribute illegal content.
- Use the service to harass, threaten, or harm anyone.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or programmatically extract data from the service beyond what our public API permits.
- Disrupt the service — flood it with traffic, attempt unauthorized access, interfere with other users.
- Resell access to repeat.cards, or use it on behalf of multiple people from a single account, without our written agreement.
- Use repeat.cards to bypass an AI provider's terms of service. When you plug in your OpenAI or Google AI key, you remain bound by that provider's rules.
If you violate these rules, we may suspend or terminate your account. For clear cases (illegal content, attacks on the service), we'll act fast. For ambiguous cases, we'll usually reach out first.
5. Your content
You own the cards, decks, and other content you create or upload. We do not claim any ownership over your content. We do not use your content to train AI models, sell to anyone, or display to other users (the service is private to each account).
You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display your content back to you so the service can work — that's it. If you delete content, we delete it from active storage; backups roll over within 30 days.
6. AI features and your API key
AI features (mnemonics, audio, example sentences, images) currently run through your own OpenAI or Google AI API key. When you click an AI button:
- We send the relevant card text to the AI provider associated with your key.
- The AI provider charges your account directly for the API usage. We do not intermediate billing today.
- The AI provider's own terms and privacy policy apply to that data flow.
We're working on a paid plan that includes AI without any setup — when it launches, you'll have the option to subscribe instead of bringing your own key. The terms here will be updated to reflect that change when it happens.
7. Pricing
Today, the core flashcard service (decks, cards, FSRS spaced repetition, statistics, deck import, audio playback) is free. AI features cost what your AI provider charges you. We do not commit to keeping any feature free forever, and the long-term business model is still being figured out. If we introduce paid features or change pricing, we'll notify registered users in advance.
8. Service availability and changes
We may add features, change features, or remove features. We may take the service offline for maintenance or upgrades. We may discontinue the service entirely — though if we do, we'll give you reasonable notice and a way to export your data.
9. Disclaimers
repeat.cards is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suited to any particular purpose. We do not guarantee the accuracy of AI-generated content — it can be wrong, misleading, or culturally inappropriate. You should review and edit AI output before relying on it.
Spaced repetition is a learning tool, not a magic bullet. Whether you actually remember the words depends on your effort, your sources, and your context. We make no claim that using repeat.cards will result in a specific level of language proficiency.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service — including loss of data, loss of revenue, or loss of opportunity. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the previous 12 months (which today is zero, for most users).
Nothing in these terms limits liability for things that cannot be lawfully limited — including death, personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that consumer-protection law forbids us to disclaim.
11. Termination
You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings. When you delete, we remove your account and all associated data within 30 days, subject to backup-rotation cycles and any legal record-keeping requirements.
We can suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. We can also terminate the service entirely with reasonable notice as described above.
12. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a material way, we'll update the “Last updated” date at the top and email registered users. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the new terms. If you don't accept them, you can delete your account at any time.
13. Contact
Email [email protected] for anything related to these terms — including the boring legal questions. See also our Privacy Policy.
